American Stroke Association to hold marathon and half marathon in Santa Clarita on November 4.

The American Stroke Association’s Train to End Stroke program is already in full swing in preparation for the November 4 marathon and half marathon in Santa Clarita.

Train To End Stroke is an endurance training and fund-raising program, benefiting the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, in which participants train to run or walk a full or half marathon through the beautiful Santa Clarita Valley. This revised looped course starts at the beautiful Valencia Town Center Mall and then follows 26.2 miles of roadways, paved city trails, and paseos throughout Santa Clarita.

As the No.3 killer and a leading cause of disability in America, stroke needs our attention. Train To End Stroke informs the public that everyone is at risk for a stroke — which does not discriminate on age, race, gender or socio-economic status.

Over 13,000 individuals have become champions through Train To End Stroke — completing a full or half marathon and raising over $36 million to fight stroke!

Participants will be provided with a training program (which is already in progress) designed for beginners who wish to get in the best shape of their lives. They have qualified running and walking coaches who will help you during weekly trainings and give you a schedule for your weekday workouts. Over 94 percent of the Train To End Stroke participants have never completed a full or half marathon, and over 60 percent of the participants walk instead of run.

Unlike many programs where the bulk of the money raised goes to administrative salaries rather than to the designated research programs, seventy percent of the donations received fund the research and educational programs of the American Stroke Association.

One of my more "senior" clients has made the commitment to the training and fund raising programs for the Train to End Stroke program. She’s now up to six miles and is getting healthier every day. If you’d like to make a donation or join the training program, please click here to donate and to find out more information about the American Stroke Association.
