Saving Money with Energy Efficient Lighting
Switching to compact flourescent light bulbs can save hundreds of dollars per year.
This video is a great demonstration of how using compact flourescent bulbs instead of standard lightbulbs can greatly decrease your energy usage. With energy savings of hundreds of dollars per year, will you be making the switch?
I found cheap compact flourescent bulbs at Smart and Final, which are subsidized by Southern California Edison (SCE), for $1.49 per four-pack. These bulbs use only 23 watts of energy, generate 100 watts of light, and are supposed to last for 10,000 hours with a 9-year guarantee. Each bulb is supposed to save $92 in energy costs over the life of the bulb, so in a kitchen with 6 can-lights like mine, that’s a whopping $552 in energy savings for just one room by using less than $2.25 worth of light bulbs!
The SCE subsidy program isn’t supposed to last forever, but for now it allows people to get started with this simple energy-saving measure for a very low cost.
