Sanitation District Fees to Increase
Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District proposes sewer service rate increase.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District of Los Angeles County is proposing a sewer service charge rate increase effective over the next 3 years. These increases affect residents in within the City of Santa Clarita and some of the adjacent unincorporated Los Angeles County areas.
There will be a public hearing and informational meetings held at the Santa Clarita City Council Chambers. The informational meetings will be on June 3 at 1pm and on June 7 at 7:30pm.
The current rate in the Santa Clarita Valley area is $10.17 per month, and the proposed rate after the increase will be $14.92 per month.
Also at issue are the regulatory standards regarding the discharge of chlorides (salt) into the Santa Clara River. The District is attempting to get the current regulations revised, since currently the choride levels are known to exceed the standard during drought conditions.
One of the major sources of chloride in the water is residential water softeners. New installations of these water softeners was banned after March 2003, but some systems installed before then still remain in use.
The District has implemented a rebate program to encourage the removal of existing water softener systems. For more information, call (877) CUT SALT.
