Santa Clarita Named One of 100 Best Communities for Young People
America's Promise votes Santa Clarita as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People.
Santa Clarita came up a winner in the nationwide America’s Promise competition, which honors communities large and small for their commitment to provide healthy, safe and caring environments for young people.
Other winning cities in California were Long Beach, Irvine, Brentwood, Georgetown Divide, San Ramon and Solano County.
America’s Promise had this to say about Santa Clarita:
"Santa Clarita is one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People, in part, because of The Anti-Gang Task Force addresses youth employment initiatives through three programs. The Job Skills Program provides young people, 18-25 years old, the opportunity to gain work experience through a six-month paid program working in the City’s Parks Division. The Summer Youth and Year Round Youth Employment Programs provide economically or educationally disadvantaged youth (14-18 years old) an opportunity to gain work experience through a guided mentor program utilizing various employers throughout Santa Clarita. The Santa Clarita Valley School and Business Alliance connects schools with businesses and community organizations. They facilitate integrated course curriculum between the high schools, community colleges and career pathways." America’s Promise strives to make sure that all children have access to the “Five Promises” essential for success: caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, an effective education and opportunities to help others.
