Tesoro del Valle’s Historical District

Tesoro Adobe Historical Park offers a look at the area's history.

The Tesoro Adobe Historical Park sits hidden amongst the trees adjacent to the Tesoro del Valle community park. Set aside early on as part of the master plan for the Tesoro del Valle housing development, this Historical Park offers a peek into the area’s history and what life was like in the Santa Clarita area in the early years.

The historical park houses nine historical buildings made of adobe and other relics from the past including telephone poles and collectibles from the 1930’s time period.

This was once the home of Western actor Harry Carey, who’s family lived there until about 1952. After that, the owners of Farmer John bought the house (the Clougherty family), and thus the location became known locally as the Farmer John Land.

Tours of the Historical Park are given on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm, where you’ll be given a tour of some of the buildings and the outdoor area, and you can watch a video with clips from some of the movies that Carey starred in from 1910 to 1940. Carey was quite a popular actor during that time, starring in 233 movies, some of them with John Wayne.

The Farmer John family apparently bought the home in hopes of raising pigs there, but turned it into a vacation home when they found out the Santa Clarita climate was too hot and dry for the pigs.

Not many people know that this park exists, or that it’s open to the public. If you’d like to call for more information, the park’s number is 661.259.0855. The patio area is also available to be rented out for small gatherings.
