Short sale (or preforeclosure) listings in the Santa Clarita area as of December 6, 2007 are definitely on the rise in some areas. Canyon Country homeowners are having the most difficulties, with a total of 103 homes (including single family homes, townhomes and condos) listed as short sales.

Remember that homes listed as short sales are not guaranteed to be sold at or near the asking price, since often times the bank (or other lender) has not agreed to allow the seller to "walk away" at that price. Expect short sale negotiations to take at least a few weeks, and up to six months, to complete.
Be sure to be pre-qualified or pre-approved with a direct lender before making an offer on a short sale property, as many banks will not accept offers without this in place.
