Santa Clarita’s Hidden Gem

Beautiful Castaic Lake Water Agency's garden oasis is Santa Clarita's hidden treasure.

A field trip to the Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA) Conservatory Garden today turned out to be a rare treat!

CLWA Conservatory GardenWith picture-perfect blue skies and a few whispy clouds, a slight breeze and the entire garden to myself, I couldn’t have asked for more on my first visit to this wonderful garden oasis.

Perched above Santa Clarita’s Central Park, theCLWA Conservatory Garden Path Conservatory Garden shows off an abundance of plants and planting methods to help people understand how to plant gardens that are water-wise as well as fire retardant.

There are displays on soil types, irrigation, which way to face certain types of plantings (south, north, etc), and more beautiful flowers than you can imagine. More than just roses, of which there are plenty, the garden shows off many beautiful plants and trees that would be the envy of any gardener’s paradise.

CLWA Conservatory GardenAll plants are labeled so you’ll know what to buy when you go to your favorite garden center. There are also plenty of educational displays as well, showing everything from irrigation methods to where water comes from.

The garden is open Thursdays through Sundays from 8am to 3pm. If you visit the CLWA Conservatory Garden on the third Saturday of each month, you’ll find classes presented as part of their Landscape Education Program from 9am to noon.
