Stonecrest Annexation Meeting April 20

Santa Clarita city officials to host an informational meeting 7 p.m. April 20 at Pinetree Community School, 29156 Lotusgarden Drive, Canyon Country

With fliers being distributed throughout the Stonecrest community with conflicting information, there’s no doubt that some of the residents are confused about the annexation process and how it would affect Stonecrest residents.

Santa Clarita city officials will hold an informational meeting on April 20 to help clear the air and answer any questions that residents may have regarding the proposed annexation.

Sources say that the fliers distributed by Steven Huerta are misleading and that they misquote city officials. Huerta is in favor of forcing a vote on the annexation.

If you are in favor of the annexation of the Stonecrest community, then the best thing for you to do is NOTHING. The annexation process is automatic if there are not enough protest letters to force a vote.

If you are approached by someone asking you to sign a letter regarding annexation, the only reason you should sign is if you’re wanting to protest the annexation. A vote is not necessary for the annexation to go through - it’s only necessary to STOP the annexation process.

When deciding whether to vote or not, consider all the facts, not just the progaganda that has reached your doorstep! Remember also that Stonecrest is the closest development to the proposed Cemex mining operation, and that the City of Santa Clarita is working hard to make sure that this mining operation is not allowed to be developed.

Residents can sign protest forms to be submitted to the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) to attempt to force a vote. If more than 50 percent of the 1,127 registered Stonecrest voters were to protest, the annexation would die. Valid protest letters are needed from at least 15% of the registered voters in the area to force a vote on the proposed annexation.
