Focus the Nation Environmental Forum and Benefit Concert at College of the Canyons

College of the Canyons Sustainable Development Committee is inviting everyone to "go green" by attending the Focus the Nation conference.

The College of the Canyons Sustainable Development Committee is inviting everyone to "go green" by attending the nationwide Focus the Nation: Global Warming Solutions for America conference on January 31 from 9am to 5:30pm. Admission is free, but there is a "suggested" contribution of $5 to $10 to help offset the program costs.

The Focus the Nation (FTN) conference will feature more than 30 speakers in two environmentally-themed breakout sessions. There will also be afternoon workshops where participants will be able to brainstorm ideas, present possible solutions and ultimately create an ongoing dialogue within the community about the subject.

Breakout session topics will include Historical Roots of Current Environment Problems and Roles of Education in Building a Sustainable Future. Afternoon workshops will offer Practical Solutions and Tips That We All Can Do, including workshops on the workplace, food and gardening, the home, space and design, classrooms, urbanization, public space, use of resources, and government policies.

In order to encourage early enrollment in the conference, "Early Bird" registrants will receive tote bags full of goodies on the day of the conference. Visit COC’s Sustainable Development Committee’s website at cocsdc.org to register and to view the complete schedule for the conference.

Following the conference will be the "Green Up" benefit concert on February 1 at 7:30pm, featuring Ticket to Ride (Beatles) and 5150 (Van Halen). Tickets to the concert range from $15 to $30 and can be purchased online and at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.
