| September 06, 2007 | | After months of emotionally-charged City Council meetings, this one's likely to be a sleeper. | After months of Santa Clarita City Council meetings featuring the highly emotional battle over the proposed expansion of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, the September 11 meeting promises to be a true sleeper. This month's agenda includes the following items: - Approval of grant funds to pay for Sheriff's overtime to conduct curfew sweeps, graffiti enforcement, bike patrols, undercover and sting operations, gang prevention, and other operations. This grant falls under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistant Grant (JAG) program.
- Authorization of the name change of San Fernando Road to Main Street in Old Town Newhall for the section between Lyons Avenue and 5th Street. No mention of how many people will get lost due to these proposed name changes... Maybe that's why we need more police presence in the area? The name change process, when complete, will leave San Fernando Road with four names (Newhall Ave., Main Street, Railroad Ave., Bouquet Cyn.) between the 14 freeway and Bouquet Junction (the intersection of Valencia/Soledad and Bouquet/San Fernando).
- Approval of no-parking zones on Sierra Highway between Friendly Valley and Rainbow Glen Drive.
- Approval of contracts for the Bus Stop Amenity Art Project, which authorizes commissioned artists to "fabricate creative works of art that also function as bus stop shading, seating and trash receptacles for selected bus stop locations". The Bus Stop Improvement Project (BSIP) is supposed to improve 300 of the 438 bus stops in the City of Santa Clarita. Seven of these proposed art projects are up for approval. I don't understand why they chose some of these... take a look at them here.
- Approve a process and timeline to recruit people to fill the vacancies on the Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel.
- Adoption of amendments to the mobile home park change of use ordinance. This amendment basically outlines the processes that a mobile home park owner must take if a park is to be closed (and the land used for other purposes) and there is no place to relocate the current tenants within the City of Santa Clarita.
