Edison Freebies Arrive!

Edison sends energy conservation freebies as a reward for taking their energy survey.

About a month ago I took the online energy survey sponsored by Southern California Edison and the Southern California Gas Company.

In addition to providing helpful tips on how I can better save energy in my home, they offered a reward of a few nifty energy-saving items. The survey is rather extensive and only takes about 15 minutes to complete, so it’s well worth doing.

Included in my box of energy-saving treats from Edison was a 90-watt equivalent compact flourescent light bulb, three screw-on chrome faucet aerators, and a low-flow Earth showerhead (in white) complete with massage settings manufactured by Niagara Conservation.

Using this new 1.5 GPM (gallons per minute) shower head is supposed to reduce my water and energy usage by as much as 40% as compared to a standard 2.5 GPM shower head. My only complaint is that they opted to send the (cheaper) version without the on/off valve for soaping up.

The compact flourescent bulb is supposed to save up to 75% in energy usage, and is supposed to last up to 10,000 hours, or 15 times longer than a standard incandescent bulb.

With skyrocketing energy costs (thanks to Edison’s huge rate increases last year) and increasing water shortages in Southern California, I’m certainly going to do my share to reduce my usage of both water and electricity. It helps the environment and it helps my pocketbook, so I can’t lose!
