| January 08, 2007 | | Democrats in Congress looking to cut funds for special projects like the Santa Clarita Cross Valley Connector. | Funding for a portion of the Santa Clarita Cross Valley Connector, the bridge for Golden Valley Road over the Santa Clara River, is apparently in jeopardy. The City of Santa Clarita requested $7 million in funding last year for the Golden Valley bridge. The U.S. House of Representatives initially earmarked $500,000 for this project, and then later withdrew that funding. This bridge funding would be the last federal funding request for the Cross Valley Connector project. Work continues on the section of the Cross Valley Connector at Newhall Ranch Road near Rye Canyon and Copperhill to State Route 126. When complete, the Santa Clarita Cross Valley Connector will link the Antelope Valley Freeway to Interstate 5. The City of Santa Clarita provides updates to the Cross Valley Connector project as well as other City construction projects on the City of Santa Clarita website. | |
