Santa Clarita City Loses Battle Over Las Lomas Project

Palmer project slated for I-5/I-14 area gets nod from judge.

The Las Lomas project, proposed by Palmer Investments, Inc., has received a writ of mandate that essentially blocks Santa Clarita’s bid for an extension of the City’s sphere of influence into the area near the I-5 and I-14 interchange.

This means that the City now has to challenge the project through the use of environmental impact reports.

Both city officials and local environmentalists have stated the proposal would have too much impact on such a steep area, and have said it will add too much traffic to the surrounding freeways as well as disturbing a wildlife corridor.

The Las Lomas project plan for includes bulldozing about half of the 555-acre mountaintop site, making way for nearly 5,000 single- and multi-family homes, plus commercial sites.

This development is being fought by the City of Santa Clarita for many reasons, including the fact that it will essentially remove all of the hills that separate the Santa Clarita Valley from the San Fernando Valley, according to some City spokesmen.

Seems it’s time to elect some new County officials to represent us in the Los Angeles County battles! With the Cemex/Stonecrest battle and now this, it seems as though the Santa Clarita valley is getting "dumped" on more and more.

  1. Another exagerated argument. Never did and never will cut down the mountains between Santa Clarita and San Fernando.
