Phone Phishing Scam Alert
Beware of calls from people claiming to be from credit card companies.
By now you’ve likely heard of the email phishing scams where someone posing as a credit card company, bank or credit union attempts to gather information about your accounts to supposedly resolve a security issue.
This scam has now moved to the phone lines.
If you receive a call from someone who claims to be from a credit card company, ask them what they’re calling about and then hang up and call the number on the back of your credit card.
Santa Clarita residents are receiving calls from 818-698-1904 and are being told that this caller is from Chase Bank.
Common sense tells us that Chase Bank wouldn’t be calling from a local number, and that Chase Bank would likely not have their name blocked on the caller ID screen.
Again, when in doubt, hang up and call your credit card company using the number on the back of your credit card. Never give out any personal information over the phone until you’ve verified that you are talking to the proper company representatives.
