Home Shopping in Santa Clarita Often Includes Knowing the School Boundaries

Santa Clarita homebuyers often want to be sure that their children will be attending certain schools.

Home shopping is complicated enough in the Santa Clarita area, with home prices in the stratoshpere and add-ons like Mello-Roos taxes (sometimes referred to as Community Facilities District or CFD fees) and homeowners association dues to worry about. Add to that the issues of freeway access and what schools your child is likely to attend, and shopping for a home can become a major research project.

Fortunately, the school district websites have added features that make it a bit easier to determine which schools your child is likely to attend. School boundaries do change at times, especially for elementary schools, so it may be wise to check the current information rather than relying on what is reported on the MLS or other home search tools.

The Saugus Union School district has an interactive map as well as an address search tool for all elementary schools in the Saugus Union School District. There are 15 campuses in the Saugus Union School District, and all but the newest school, Tesoro del Valle (opened in 2005), have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools. In addition five schools have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools. School accountability report cards are also available online. The Sulphur Springs School District includes elementary schools in the Canyon Country and Newhall areas. The school district has provided a list of streets by school to help homebuyers determine school boundaries.

Boundaries for some of the Sulphur Springs elementary shools were changed as of January 1, 2006. Schools affected by the changes are shown on the following maps: Sulphur Springs Elementary School boundary map; Mitchell Community School boundary map; Leona Cox Elementary boundary map; Canyon Springs and Fair Oaks Ranch boundary map.
