The City of Santa Clarita Planning Commission met yesterday to discuss the development of an Embassy Suites Hotel and a Courtyard by Marriott near the corner of the 126 Freeway and Avenue Stanford in the Valencia Industrial Center.
These hotels will be part of a new development bounded by Westinghouse Place and Vanderbilt Way. New buildings for Explorer Insurance and Mammoth Equities will be located nearby, as well as the new Summit Oaks office building.

The plat maps and much of the development guidelines were approved by Los Angeles Country prior to this area’s annexation into the City of Santa Clarita. Yesterday’s discussions centered more on the visual appeal of the development, with height restrictions, parking, exterior colors and landscaping being the primary concerns.
The buildings as proposed would have a contemporary theme and will have a color scheme of 3-4 colors (Courtyard by Marriott uses beiges and maroon, and the Embassy Suites uses beiges and teal). The exterior accents will be similar to the Craftsman style, and the colors and accents will be consistent with previously approved buildings in the Westinghouse Place area.
Lynne Plambeck of SCOPE stepped in to complain about some of the proposed planting materials after the main presentation was complete. Apparently she didn’t like some of the oak tree choices that were presented in the landscaping plan. Perhaps she should concentrate on getting her election signs taken down before splitting hairs on oak trees? Other than Ms. Plambeck’s comments, there was very little discussion from the public regarding this project.
