Canyon Country Residents on Ermine Street Lose Bid to Block Brookfield Homes Development

The Santa Clarita City Council has unaminously approved the Brookfield Homes Keystone project in the Plum Canyon area of Canyon Country, which is expected to extend Ermine Street in order to service the new neighborhood.

The Keystone project, consisting of 499 homes and budgeted at $100 million, will apparently help fund the extension of Golden Valley Road. The developer is also supposed to provide $36 million in public amenities, including a 5-acre public park, sites for a YMCA and the William S. Hart Union High School District for a junior high school, and a $2 million contribution toward performing arts centers at Saugus and Canyon high schools.

Ermine Street residents claim that they expect see a rise in daily vehicle trips from about 80 a day to 2,000 a day.
